I want to present You a new male that I have recently bought. l nick-named him Dream X. He hatched on 21th of April in 2008 by famous chondro breeder Greg Maxwell. Heritage and quality that stands behind this male are truly fantastic. His pedigree is out of this world.

I still can not believe that this male is in CROCHONDRO collection. This is a dream come true. Dream X is a corner stone of my collection, the best there is. His genetics and his look are leaving nobody indifferent. Since I first started with chondros I was dreaming of having blue, calico, lemon and dream chondros by myself. Well I got all of this with Dream X. His pedigree is nothing but a perfect coctail of TW blue, GM Calico, Lemon Tree and Dream line. Nobody can even try to guess what this male is capable to produce even if breed with normal locality chondro females. I have some really special chondro females waiting for him to grow up and start breeding! Now I will tell you more about his genetics.

Greg Maxwell is the developer of calico line. The founder animal for this line was produced in 1993 as a brown baby hatched by breeder Trooper Walsh from his blue line pairing. As this young chondro began its color change, it soon became apparent that something different was happening. The chondro developed a yellow body color, but was heavily cpeckled with other colors including light green, dark green, black, yellow, yellow-orange, light blue, aqua and white. Added to the interesting and attractive mix of colors was the unique way they were speckled and splattered evenly on the animal from head to tail. The whole effect was similar to the grainy breakup of color on a computer monitor when viewed close up. This is why Greg Maxwell nick-named him "The Computer Chondro" due to the pixel-like pattern. photo by Greg Maxwell

By lucky coincidence, Greg purchased a normal female that was a sibling to this male. photo by Greg Maxwell

He then decided to breed them in an effort to concentrate the possibilities for producing another calico animal and he succeeded in 1999. Only three offspring survived but one of them, a unique dark baby with a few markings, showed unusual patterning and coloration at a year of age, and developed into the second known calico male, "Calico Junior". photo by Greg Maxwell

Junior has the same pixelated patter and distinct head and neck differentiation as his father, but many colors seem to be the reverse of the founder male. Where his father has yellow as the primary ground color, Junior has dark chocolate brown. Green, yellow, red-orange, yellow-orange, aqua, light blue, and pea green can all be seen on him. The animal almost looks like a photographic negative of his father. With this chondro Greg demonstrated that calico pattern was a heritable trait. In 2004 Calico Junior proved his prowess as a breeder in both zeal and genetic capability.

Twenty-two neonates were hatched that May. The results were have been even more then gratifying then the previous efforts, with several very special animals. These animals are considered a third generation of calicos and Dream X's father is one of them.

That is all about the Greg Maxwell calico line that you need to know in case of my male. There are more extreme calicos produced by Greg that were not mentioned in this text and they are all sibling or half siblings to the animals mentioned here. I only used these that are directly related to Dream X.

This is photo of Rain X and DayDream while breeding!

Now it is time to write you a story about Dream X's mother and her heritage. She doen't have such a long history as his father's but it is interesting indeed.

Some chondro breeders refer to this pairing as to the best pairing ever because almost all of the chondros from it ended up as really extreme looking chondros. This pairing deserves to be in hall of fame of all chondro pairings ever done. I specially like two Day Dream's full siblings. Their colors are unbelievable. Both are owned by Bobby Keller who also takes care for Day Dream but her owner is chondro breeder Brett Mazimann.

These three chondros are offspring from Calico Jr. x DayDream 2006 clutch. They are more then just a half siblings to DreamX since they share same dam(DayDream) and DreamX's grandsire Calico Jr. is their sire. These are one of the best looking chondros in the world today! They are in FineGTPs collection owned by Bobby Keller!

And here we are today looking at this amazing fourth generation calico male who has lemon and dream line packed as well inside his genes. I constantly ask myself the same question. What can we expect that fifth generation of calicos will look like?

I am extremely excited to see!

If You are really interested in these lines and want to know more I suggest You to take a look at Bobby Keller's THE FINE GTPs web site!
